Shows - 1985 Richmond Labyrinth Review

Review by Geoffrey Edwards, NGV Senior Curator, Sculpture on ABC radio ARTSVIEW August 5, 1985

"Meertens calls his installation Richmond Labyrinth. These are mostly battered sheets of corrugated iron with peeling paint fabricated over roughly-constructed wooden armatures. The works could not be coarser in construction, with great flathead nails visible all over the place, enough to make even the lousiest home handyman reel back in horror. There are equally ratty passages of fibrous insulating materials; snatches of tarred paper & the like.

The sculpture is, put bluntly, not a pretty site. But thank goodness for that."
